About Fun in the Sun

After searching the internet for calls for submission, I found this gem of a theme. 'Fun in the Sun', something to warm a person up after 7-8 months of winter. Yes, that's right, I said 7-8 months of winter. No, I don't live in an igloo way up there but close enough. Alberta, Canada can be extremely cold in the later months. Once October hits, it's time to hibernate, at least for me it is. I'm so not a winter person. The snow didn't melt here until the beginning of May. Say what?! Yeah, it was a long winter.

My toes were freezing all the time, and I love to be barefoot. Writing 'Private Eyes' certainly thawed me out. When I had half of the story written, I printed it out and passed it around the table at karaoke for my friends to read. There sat three women waiting for their turn to sing, glued to the pages. My poor brother sat at the table while his girlfriend was sucked into reading his sister's erotic story. She asked, "What happens next? How do they meet?" One of my friends even brushed off the karaoke host when he came up to ask if she had another song to sing.

I loved the responses I received.

And then my mom wanted to read it. I really didn't want any family reading it, because well, it's smut. I gave her two or three pages at first, the ones without any dirty bits. Once she was done those few pages, she asked for the others. I was hesitant at first, but hey, she is no spring chicken. I handed over the half completed copy to my mom and she continued to read.

Oh good lord, what was I thinking? While she sat on my couch smiling, flipping to read the next page, I found my copy on the PC and read along. Oh my god, what was I thinking? My mom was reading my writing, my smut, my not so good-girl words. I looked at my mom and she looked up from the pile of papers in her hand and said, "Wow, this is really good." Right then I knew I could do it. If it had the seal of approval from mom, the one who is always head down in a book, I could do it.

The deadline came way too fast for me, and not many people like things that come too fast. I originally wanted to write another part to the story, but with a word count fast approaching, there was no way to get it in. I'm pretty sure, in the future, that part of the story will be written for publication. I finished up the story, printed it out and had everyone reading it again. Of course, they loved it. I sent it off to the publishing house and waited for a reply. I really wasn't sure if it was good enough for someone other than my friends to read. Within a few days, I had my answer.

House of Erotica wanted to add it into the collection of short stories with the same theme. I was beyond giddy from the response. Anyway, I did some editing, signed the contracts and sent everything back to them. Within a few days it was live, ready for the world to read.

If you haven't read it yet, you can find the link on the right to download it. If you have read it, feel free to tell me what you thought of it. Good or bad, I'm a tough gal. If you've enjoyed it, please recommend it to your friends. Reviews left on the site in which it was bought from is greatly appreciated.
